According to a new report by the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization (RMCO) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)., future emissions of gasses like CO2 could bring triple digit heat to Yosemite National Park .
These Climate projections covered ten national parks and national recreation areas within the State of California. The California Climate Change Center has stated that there are “medium-high” future emissions of heat-trapping gases in six climate models as Yosemite getting 7.5 degrees hotter by 2070-2099 than it was from 1961 to 1990.
The other key park-specific projections which have been detailed in the report worth noting are:
- Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks could get + 7.6 degrees hotter, making them +0.6 degrees hotter than the Sonoma County coast has been.
- Point Reyes National Seashore could get 6.0 degrees hotter, making it as hot as Santa Barbara.
- Death Valley National Park, the hottest place in North America, could get + 8.1 degrees hotter.
- Average temperatures in Joshua Tree National Park could go up +7.4°
- The Mojave National Preserve – site of the soon-to-be built world’s largest solar array – could go up by+ 8.0 degrees
