The Ten Environmental Travel Commandments

  1. Don’t litter or drop litter – especially plastic bags.
  2. Don’t purchase illegal souvenirs or food made from protected species.
  3. Don’t waste water.
  4. Keep lighting to a minimum & don’t leave the lights on when you’re not in your room.
  5. Don’t leave the air conditioning running when you are not in the room.
  6. Don’t purchase bottle or mineral water in plastic water bottles when the hotel provides drinkable water for re-fills and remember that only 1 in 5 water bottles ever get recycled.
  7. Watch where you stand and tread, protect the environment for the next generation and make sure you don’t try and souvenir anything while you are there by picking up a relic or rock, etc.
  8. Don’t disturb the wildlife it’s their home not yours.
  9. Don’t throw cigarette butts on the ground, you wouldn’t throw them on the floor of your house so don’t throw them on the ground.
  10. Use recycling facilities where ever it is offered.
