Vietnam’s doucs face extinction

Vietnam’s population of grey-shanked doucs – a primate native to the country – is under severe threat of extinction due to deforestation. Hundreds of hectares of protected forest in the doucs’ Quang Nam province, in central Vietnam, are being illegally cut down, leading to the primates’ territory being reduced to two small plots of forest chasm between two mountain sides. The total remaining population is estimated at just 600-700 doucs.
